I really, really like the Warrior Cats series so I occasionally write short stories involving random made up characters about them. c: The setting is based before Pinestar and Hailstar etc, so they're still in the old forest.

Redwhisker's fur spiked as the white tom's nose made contact. The force of the life running through him was nearly overwhelming; he had trouble staying on his paws.
"Stay strong. You will need it to lead your Clan." The white tom, Whitepelt, murmured before stepping back into the ranks of StarClan cats.
Redwhisker barely recovered from the last life before a new cat stepped up. This one, achingly familiar, broke his heart.
"Fernheart." He whispered the name. The dappled grey she-cat's tail waved as she padded up, taking bouncy steps.
"My dear son. I am so proud of you." She meowed, her green eyes fixed on Redwhisker's amber ones. "You have come so far. So much has happened since my death, and you handled it very well. I am proud to call you my son." Fernheart touched noses with the orange tabby tom. "I give you a life for the love of a mother. Treat your Clan as if they were your kits."
Redwhisker's body stiffened at the touch of his mother's nose. His whiskers twitched, and limbs jerked out of control for a heartbeat. Fernheart had stepped back, love in her eyes as she returned to her place in StarClan.
Who will give me my last life? Redwhisker wondered. Moments later a new cat stepped out of the ranks of starry cats, this one a familiar shade of black.
"Ravenstar!" Redwhisker looked over his former leader. Ravenstar's final moments in the Clan had been cruel, an agonizing greencough choking the lean black tom to death. Ravenstar looked young and muscular now, no signs of the illness that had wracked his body.
"Congratulations, Redwhisker. I am proud to pass down the leadership of my Clan to you." Ravenstar glanced to the side, and Redwhisker noticed a faint outline of an ancient spirit in the trees. The ancient spirit stepped forward, revealing itself to him. Thunderstar!
"I give you a life for strength. You will need the support of your Clan in the coming moons - be sure you have it."
Redwhisker's claws dug into the ground as he received this life. One thought streamed through his mind - What future does StarClan hold for me and my Clan?
Redwhisker gradually relaxed from the life. He felt new strength flowing into his body, all the way down to his tail tip. He stood up straight, his tail erect and head pointed forwards. Ravenstar threw his head back and yowled out the new leader's name.
"Redstar! Redstar!" StarClan followed his lead, their voices spiraling into the sky.
"I promise I will make ThunderClan as strong as it can be." He mewed, his gaze fixing on every cat. "I promise to prove myself as ThunderClan's new leader, and I hope to make everyone here proud." Thunderstar nodded in approval, his once-bright orange tabby pelt now translucent with age.
The rest of StarClan spiraled away into the starry sky, but Thunderstar remained. He padded over to Redstar and sat down, his tail wrapped around his paws.
"I have a warning for you, Redstar." He murmured. "The shadows will dare enroach, but you cannot let them. If you do, thunder will crash one last time before darkness takes over." The already-faded tom started to fade more.
"No! Don't go!" Redstar pleaded, but he was gone. Redstar blinked and he found himself curled up at the foot of the Moonstone.
"Honeyleaf, it's time to go." Redstar meowed quietly as he pulled himself to his paws. The pretty golden she-cat dipped her head in reply and started to head out of the cave. Redstar followed, shaking his pelt vigorously. The tunnel seemed to stretch on forever, and the weight of rock above Redstar's head made him nervous. A voice, a familiar voice, echoed in his head.
"Don't let the shadows appear." The ancient ThunderClan founder whispered, and Redstar caught a faint gleam of his eyes in the darkness. Honeyleaf hadn't noticed anything peculiar; Redstar guessed his medicine cat wasn't being shown these messages.
Eventually sunlight appeared at the end of the tunnel and Redstar could breathe comfortably again. Honeyleaf took a deep breath, relishing the cleanliness of the air.
"Are you ready to return to the Clan?" She asked, looking at him. His dark red tabby pelt hadn't been groomed and he was hungry.
"Of course." He replied. Honeyleaf nodded and plodded on, the sunlight dappling on her pelt.
The two cats walked through WindClan territory, a passing patrol spotted them and ran over.
"Redwhisker!"
"It's Redstar now." Redstar dipped his head. "Ravenstar lost his final life yesterday. I mourn for him, but I have a Clan to tend to." The WindClan cats dipped their heads in reply and promised to tell their leader, Stonestar.
Honeyleaf bounded into the forest, and Redstar followed, leaping over logs and under trailing branches. Soon the ThunderClan camp entrance came into sight. Redstar stared at it, letting thoughts run through his mind. He was leader now; he wouldn't have anyone to look to in times of need. But he didn't need anyone. He could do it on his own.
I'm ready for this. Redstar padded through the entrance, uncomfortably aware of his messy pelt.
"Redstar! Redstar!" The cats called, their eyes shining. The new leader's tail waved, surprised at the sudden support and loyalty of his Clan. Jumping onto the Highrock, Redstar gazed down at his Clan. He needed a deputy, someone he could look to for help, someone to help bear the weight of leading ThunderClan. There was one cat he had in mind - a pale grey and white tabby she-cat, with striking blue eyes. Raintail would be a good choice. She's loyal, and wise. She knows what a good decision is and what's not. She's respected too, I'm sure most cats won't complain when taking orders from her. Finalizing his plan, Redstar let out his first summons.
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Highrock for a Clan meeting!" He yowled, his ears pricked.
Most of the Clan was already in the clearing, they turned towards their leader and waited patiently.
"ThunderClan needs a deputy. I cannot take on the burden of leading alone; I would like someone to share my responsibility with. StarClan, please hear and approve of my choice. Raintail is the new deputy of ThunderClan." Raintail's eyes widened in shock as she stood up and placed herself below the Highrock.
"I'm honored, Redstar. I am proud to serve our Clan as deputy." Redstar dipped his head in reply, satisfaction warming his gaze. "I know you will."
"Raintail! Raintail!" The Clan yowled, tails waving happily. The new deputy's eyes sparkled as she glanced around the Clan.
"Are you ready to organize the first patrols?" Redstar asked once he had leaped down from the Highrock. Raintail didn't seem daunted by the challenge - instead intrigued.
"Of course, Redstar!" She replied, her tail waving.
"Sparrowclaw, can you take Rosepaw and Yellowfur hunting? Try the Great Sycamore." The cats she had named nodded and padded out of camp. Raintail raised her voice again after the hunting patrol had left. "Hawkfeather, I want you to lead a border patrol with Poppyclaw, Ashwhisker, and Feathernose. Try the ShadowClan border. Volewhisker, Flowerheart, pick three other cats each for your border patrols. Volewhisker, take the WindClan border, Flowerheart the RiverClan border." Raintail turned around and sat next to Redstar after she had finished.
"Good job." He purred. "You'll eventually become more efficient. I chose well." Raintail purred in reply.
"Thanks." The two watched the Clan return to their drowsing and those chosen to go on patrol leaving camp.
"Hey, Stormstripe, want to come to the training hollow? Finchpaw needs practice on his hunting crouch, and you're really good at it!" Crowpelt called, looking across camp towards the dark grey tabby tom.
"Sure, Crowpelt!" He replied, pulling himself to his paws. Finchpaw leaped forward and lead the way out of camp, his mentor and Stormstripe following behind.
Goldenpelt was sunbathing in a patch of sunlight around the nursery; her kits Stonekit, Leafkit and Swallowkit playing with a ball of moss nearby.
Redstar stood up and stretched happily, content with seeing his Clan so peaceful. Raintail dipped her head to him before padding off to rest in the warrior's den.
Redstar opened his eyes. He was sitting in a clearing, his amber eyes darting around. Several cats with starlight glimmering around their paws padded to and fro, their tails waving. One cat leaped up a tree in pursuit of a squirrel. Whitepelt padded past him, his white pelt gleaming and healthy.
"Hello Redstar!" He said as he walked by. The StarClan cat disappeared into the trees. Redstar's heart leaped as he saw his mother, Fernheart.
"Redstar!" Fernheart called, trotting over.
"Hello, Fernheart." Redstar purred, his tail waving.
"How are you?" She asked, starlight dancing around her grey paws.
"I'm fine. How is Rockclaw?" Redstar asked, glancing around, looking for the dark grey tom that was his father.
"Rockclaw's fine, too, my dear." Fernheart replied. "Good luck!" She meowed before padding off towards the forest. Redstar's gaze flashed across StarClan's forest.
Why am I here?
"I should have figured it would be obvious to you by now." A voice sounded in his ear, as if reading his mind.
"The shadows are coming. Beware of them, don't let them come." Redstar turned his head to see Thunderstar there, the ancient tom's once-bright ginger pelt nearly clear with age.
